The following was taken from the Yorkshire Regiment website

Killed in action 8 May 1918 in France and Flanders. Fawcett grew up in Yarm, attended the Grammar School and was later a pupil teacher at the local Council School. However, records show that on enlistment he was living at Spring House, Great Broughton and he is recorded on the Kirkby and Great Broughton Memorial in the Great Broughton Methodist Church

Yarm1914 believe that John Fawcett was born in 1896 to Louisa and Robert Fawcett.He was a farmer at Barn Farm Wellbury near Northallerton. In 1891 they had three daughters, Elizabeth L aged 6, Clara aged 4 and Beatrice aged 3, a son Robert Marwood aged 1 and a farm servant Harry Palmer. In 1901 the family was farming at Kepwick Mill near Thirsk. Three otehr sons had joined the family, William 8, Alexander 7 and John aged 5. In 1911 the family had moved once again to Low Forest Farm, Kirklevington. Elizabeth and Beatrice had moved away and John was 15 and described as at School on the census.The other children worked on the farm. After the war the family resided at Lowlands Farm, Worsall Road in Yarm and hence the commemoration on the Yarm memorial
John's brother Alexander signed up on 15 January 1915 in Stafford and joined the Kings own Yorkshire Light Infantry (KOYLI) Regiment numbers 21164 and 27169.
